Painting The Bass

As a wise man in the 1980s once said, time to paint the bass.  I think he was talking about doughnuts not a bass,  and he was making them, not painting them, but close enough.

I’m using rattle cans from Roth Metal Flake specifically… Cherry Pie base coat which is a metallic red.  Over that, I’ll put some Cherry Pie glitter paint.  This is clear paint with red glitter in it to give it some sparkle.

Anywho, tis a nice day outside so let’s get started.  Read on to see what’s up.

First I set up my spray area.  It’s a workmate work bench with a chunk of lumber that holds a piece of conduit attached to the body.  It lets me rotate the body and move it around.  After spraying I take it to my workbench and let it dry inside.

I sprayed the red right over the bass, but I think I needed some primer for better coverage.

Starting over with some gray primer to cover everything up real nice.

I also did the face of the headstock.

Now time for the first coat of red, which came out much better!

A couple more coats and the basecoat is all finished!

It looks a lot more “red” in person.

Next step is putting the glitter coat on!
