I need to route out the body to accept the Floyd Rose style tremolo.  I’m trying to save money so I’m making my own routing templates.

I want to make this a recessed tremolo so I can lower the pitch and also raise the pitch (pull up on the bar).  This is more complicated and requires extra modificationz.

Lucky for me, the website Project Guitar has a great set of plans for making a set of templates for this.  I redrew their plans using Sketchup and printed them out full size on paper.

I’m making my templates out of some MDF material I had.  After spray gluing the paper templates on to pieces of MDF, I can use my tools to cut them out to the lines.

Now it’s time to start making wood chips on that beautiful guitar body!

I covered the body in Frisket film to protect it while I rub wood and power tools all over it.  I laid out the centerline of the guitar and the intonation line and clamped one of the template holders in place.

Now time for some sawdust on the top!

Then on to the back side!

The tele bridge pickup cavity is pretty deep.  I might have to fix that ☹️

Next up is routing for the pickups.

9 months later…

Here we are today.  Plans are the same but different.  I’m still working on the original plans, but instead of modifying the old body, I bought a new one that is already painted!  I’m gonna keep Sex Panther (sorry of) and make a new Super Telecaster named deth barby.

The website Guitar Fetish sells imported guitar kits and guitar parts (bodies, necks, etc).  They had a sale recently and I dropped the hammer.  A pink sparkly hammer.

The next step is to take a router to that beauty.

Can’t leave well enough alone.  I like Sex Panther a lot.  There are some things that I would like to make it better.

I’ve been missing a Floyd Rose style guitar.  While I do have Julius Prime, it’s not really a practical guitar lol.

What do I want to make better about Sex Panther?

• Paint – I wanted it to be pinker and more flashy.
• Headstock – the size and shape of the headstock are not really what I wanted. 
• Tremolo – if you have a pink guitar, maybe it should be silly with a double locking Floyd Rose style tremolo

Let’s start with the neck…

I really want a 70’s strat style big headstock.  I can paint it black and put a bigger Sex Panther logo on it.   If it’s gonna be silly like that, might as well make it a reverse headstock lol.

Mighty Mite to the rescue.  They have a perfect neck for me.  70’s reverse strat headstock, compound radius fretboard, satin finish!

I need to modify it for the locking nut.
